Now that I’m on a college network and using iTunes with sharing enabled I’m always prompted “users are connected” when I try to quit. I don’t care and quit, but I’m usually curious to know who is connected to my iTunes.
So after Googling a bit and coming up with nothing I tried some old fashioned stuff. I did an “netstat —a” in the console trying to see who and what ports were used for iTunes. Surely enough, the IP Address was listed on port 3698. Well, that dosen’t really do much good because I don’t know about you, but I can’t translate this into something coherent:
TCP ashutosh:3689 149-159-104-74.dhcp-bl.indiana.edu:3634
Well, another hack way to do it is connect to the other person’s iTunes. It’ll list an outgoing connection to their foreign port. Not the most user intuitive or efficient way and you are sort of shooting in the dark, but it works.
So now you know.
