Time to upgrade cameras?

I’ve been thinking about selling my Nikon 5700 and buying something more advanced. I’m definitely very satisfied with the camera and would recommend it to a “prosumer”; plus it’s also become relatively cheaper from when I bought mine exactly a year ago. Even though the Nikon 5700 has a bunch of manual aperture and shutter speed settings, I’m still looking for something that allows for more control; specifically in contrast and focus. Auto focus is great when you’re not out to take pictures for the sake of pictures (aka parties) but when you want to capture something specific auto-focus doesn’t cut it.

Thus, I think its time for me to upgrade into a SLR.

I couldn’t get a regular SLR since film would soon cost more than the camera based on the number of pictures I take, so its got to be digital. I’ve heard that Canon just came out with a Digital SLR < $1000 dollars and even though it seems like a fantastic deal, upon reading more reviews of it its great for its price but lacks a bunch of the features of the 10D which it was based off. DPreview.com has a feature by feature comparison between the 10D and the 300D.

The 300D is $799 – $899 while the 10D is more like $1499. I’m going to watch prices during Thanksgiving and decide hopefully what I’ll be upgrading to before we head off to New Zealand for winter break.

If you own either of these, drop me a line and let me know your take on it.
