Politics effects you

I had a discussion about something with a friend and she made the statement that politics, and specifically Saddam Huessien doesn’t effect her. Yes, there is nothing you can do about it so that may be a justification of not following it or being ignorant about it, but claiming that it has no effect on you is just naive. Politics effects every aspect of your life, its just that you have no control over it. So why follow if it you can’t effect it?

Not saying you have to, but to me its a hobby. I find it far more interesting what is happening in the world I live, rather then who Brad Pitt is marrying. Most people disagree with me, so I leave it at that. All I claim is that it is naive to say “I choose to remain ignorant about it because it doesn’t effect me”. The only valid claim is that it bores me, thus I don’t follow it. The second is a perfectly valid claim, even though most choose the prior.
